  • Overview

    The Florida Policy Director will research and analyze specific areas of legislation that fits within the broader scope of Americans for Prosperity Foundation and Americans for Prosperity.  Reporting to the Florida Deputy State Director, the candidate will craft the policy response to current legislation and provide recommendations for new policy initiatives. The candidate should have a commitment to the principles of the organization – specifically, a firm commitment to advancing every individual’s right to economic freedom and opportunity through free markets.

    Responsibilities

    • Research and analyze legislation coming before the legislature in AFP issue areas including but not limited to: tax, budget, economic development, technology, healthcare, and criminal justice
    • Monitor legislative committee meetings and sessions, and track AFP Florida priority issues
    • Ability to synthesize and craft a policy response within the broader scope of AFP Florida projects
    • Draft letters of support for the Florida legislature and internal briefing documents for AFP Florida staff
    • Provide policy recommendations for new and existing policy
    • Work with other AFP state chapters to better understand the impact of current legislation
    • Build relationships with coalition partner groups and organizations
    • Author blog posts, opinion editorials and other materials for publication
    • Speak on behalf of the organization to members and committees of the legislature and local municipalities.
    • Assist on other special projects as needed

    Qualifications

    • Degree in political science or related field is required
    • Minimum of one year’s experience working in a related field (i.e. policy analysis, legislative staff, Capitol Hill position, etc.)
    • Outstanding written and oral communication skills
    • Strong analytical, research and problem-solving skills
    • Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively, in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, environment
    • Integrity, humility, and an entrepreneurial attitude
    • A positive attitude and an earnest interest in providing good customer service to our members, partners and state chapters
    • A firm commitment to advancing every individual’s right to economic freedom and opportunity through free markets
    • The ability to put together powerpoint presentations, and understanding of technology products including or similar to Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
