  • Overview

    The Grassroots Director will work to build and assist grassroots activities by managing the logistics for town halls and large events, as well as volunteer activities including, but not limited to meetings with officials, media relations, phone banking, and door to door canvassing, while reporting to the State Director.  Through grassroots events and trainings, the Grassroots Director will be a spokesperson, and organize, recruit, and engage volunteers to become active within their local community.  The Grassroots Director will work directly with the State Director to drive strategy and performance of field activities.  The ideal candidate will have a background in grassroots advocacy, logistics, and management and will have strong experience with communications.


    • Capacity to travel to events around the state, drive culture, and execute managerial responsibilities with support staff.
    • Build grassroots relations for the state chapter with political, business, media and community leaders, as planned by the State Director.
    • Assess and report performance of day-to-day activities and projects of volunteers.
    • Plan and organize AFP and AFPF events as well as attend third party events for recruitment and education purposes.
    • Mobilize and educate grassroots activists on issues within the organization’s mission.
    • Organize and plan state and local educational rallies and other grassroots events, including the phone bank setup process and door to door canvassing, to advance policy.
    • Update social media outlets – Facebook, Twitter, and blog posts on grassroots acitivities.
    • Possess ability to be highly productive in a home office and/or remote environment.
    • Embrace change and navigate rapidly changing logistics.


    • 5-8 years of experience in politics, issue campaigns, or government
    • Management experience, key in driving culture and performance
    • Experience with grassroots operations and/or event logistics
    • Outstanding communication skills, both written and oral
    • Strong attention to detail and excellent problem solving skills
    • Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively with state and national staff, in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, environment
    • Willingness to perform all duties as listed and any other duties assigned
    • Willingness to travel for in and out of state
    • Proven ability to work remotely and in an office environment
    • Competency with Microsoft Office Suite
    • Competency with learning new operations systems
    • Integrity, humility, and an entrepreneurial attitude
