    We are seeking a communications director for Americans for Prosperity (AFP) to develop and execute a comprehensive brand and communications strategy for the nation’s largest grassroots advocate for a free and open society.


    AFP exists to recruit, educate, and mobilize citizens in support of the policies and goals of a free society at the local, state, and federal level, helping every American live their dream – especially the least fortunate. AFP has a vision for an America where truly free markets allow for free and prosperous people. They use cutting-edge tools and technology to support a network of 36 state chapters and over 3.2 million engaged citizens who are working to bring that vision to life.


    The ideal candidate is a passionate and experienced professional who can bring sophisticated media relations and marketing strategies together to manage multiple concurrent projects and initiatives. Ideally, this candidate is experienced in public relations, rapid response, omni-channel marketing, paid media strategy, branding, compliance, and project management.

    • Develop and execute a comprehensive branding and communications strategy that positions the organization to advance the operational and policy goals of the organization as determined by the president, COO, policy director and other stakeholders.
    • Work collaboratively with internal press, digital, creative, writing and research teams to project manage the development, distribution and maintenance of quality content, collateral and other assets as needed.
    • Project-manage issue campaigns for the organization, from development to execution.
    • Manage media relationships, and speak on the record to various media outlets on behalf of the organization. 
    • Optimize media opportunities to insert the brand’s POV and drive narratives in the press.
    • Support AFP grassroots chapters across the country with their media relations and branding strategy needs. 
    • Responsible for crafting media strategy, making branding recommendations, and developing communications plans to leverage special events and press conferences.


    • A bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 5+ years of experience in public relations, marketing, campaigns, or other professional communications.
    • Experience with center-right policies is preferred
    • At least 3 years management/supervisory experience
    • Proven ability to speak on the record required; experience on TV and radio preferred
    • Exceptional communication skills, both written and oral
    • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while coordinating with multiple stakeholders in a highly deadline-driven, fast-paced environment.
