Overview

The Law Clerk will be an integral part of the AFP Legal team, providing key support for the General Counsel and other members of the Legal department. The Law Clerk will assist with projects on varied areas of law, including contract, corporate, campaign finance & election, labor & employment, tax, real estate, and intellectual property. Some research and writing will be required. The ideal candidate should be passionate about economic freedom and helping people make their own lives better on their own terms. Law Clerks are part of the AFP internship program, although participation in most intern programming is considered optional.

Responsibilities

  • Legal research and writing as directed by General Counsel, Deputy General Counsel, and Associate Counsel 
  • Assistance with compliance matters
  • Document review and preparation, including contract & lease reviews and memoranda on various subjects.
  • Completing and filing various forms required by the federal and state governments, as directed by the Legal Administrators or attorneys
  • Perform other tasks and special projects to assist the legal department as needed

Qualifications

  • Ability to work part time Monday-Friday (January-May)
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively, occasionally under strict deadlines
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Integrity, humility and an entrepreneurial attitude
  • Positive, goal-oriented outlook
  • Willingness to learn and provide assistance as necessary
  • Enrollment in law school or experience as a legal assistant/paralegal strongly preferred
