Overview

The Policy Analyst will conduct research and analysis of specific areas of legislation that fit within the broader scope of Americans for Prosperity and Americans for Prosperity Foundation’s issue set, and assist with advocacy efforts surrounding those issues with AFP/F state chapters and/or the HQ federal affairs team as necessary. Reporting to the Director of Federal Affairs, the candidate will craft analysis and other content related to current legislation, regulatory proposals progress, and provide research to support AFP’s policy initiatives. The candidate should have a commitment to the principles of the organization – specifically, a firm commitment to advancing every individual’s right to economic freedom and opportunity through free markets. 

Responsibilities

  • Research and analysis of current legislation and regulatory proposals in AFP/F issue areas including but not limited to: transportation, energy, land management, environmental policy, telecommunications and technology, defense spending, and other topics as needed.
  • Work to advance free market principals by producing analysis and research material, including but not limited to issue summaries, issue briefs, “white papers,” advocacy tools, testimony, opinion and commentary, and any other material needed to support the development and advocacy of the organization's engagement efforts
  • Assist with the development of letters of support for the Hill and internal briefing documents for AFP/F staff and management on an as-needed basis
  • Provide policy recommendations for new and existing organization policy positions
  • Work with state chapters to better understand the impact of current federal legislation and regulatory policies
  • Assist on other special projects as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • B.A. in political science or related field, or a minimum of two years of experience working in a related field (i.e. policy analysis, Capitol Hill position, etc.)
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills
  • Strong analytical, research and problem solving skills
  • Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively, in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, environment
  • Integrity, humility, and an entrepreneurial attitude
  • A positive attitude and an earnest interest in providing good customer service to our members, partners and state chapters
  • A firm commitment to advancing every individual’s right to economic freedom and opportunity through free markets
