Overview

The Coalitions Director will work with state and organizational leadership to form strategic partnerships with state groups, elected officials, key community leaders and others in furtherance of strategies to promote organizational priorities to advance a free and open society.  This individual will specifically work to expand the objectives of The LIBRE Initiative, a project of AFP which advances the principals and value of a free and open society to empower the US Hispanic community.  In addition, they will recruit activists and provide a platform for volunteers through grassroots activities such as phone banking, door to door canvassing, and neighborhood events based on the organization’s strategic goals.  The ideal candidate will have a background in grassroots advocacy, project management, and people management. 

Responsibilities

  • Create, implement, and manage a strategic plan for your communities in order to build a grassroots network with political, business, media and community leaders
  • Collaborate with allied groups and leaders throughout the state to help advance goals that align with the vision of a free and open society.
  • Partner with state leadership to build and manage relationships in legislature to further policy goals.
  • Recruit activists and volunteers to become involved in LIBRE volunteer phone banking, door to door canvassing, educational and community development events on strategic initiatives
  • Meet monthly metrics that measure activist involvement
  • Develop and host educational events with coalition partners for policy objectives to support grassroots efforts
  • Act as the voice of the organization by attending and speaking at local grassroots events for recruitment and education purposes
  • Organize and plan state and local educational rallies and other grassroots events, including the phone bank setup process and door to door canvassing
  • Collaborate with state leadership team and executive directors to ensure strategic partnerships and initiatives leverage the appropriate brand/target the appropriate audiences
  • Serve as a spokesperson as needed for a specialized grassroots effort (CVA, LIBRE, Gen Opp, or AFP). Collaborate with allied groups and leaders throughout the state to help advance goals that align with the vision of a free and open society.
  • Represent the organization by attending and speaking at local grassroots events for recruitment and education purposes
  • Organize and participate in direct lobbying/testifying as needed.
  • Drive a positive culture built on and around MBM principles throughout the state and organization.

Qualifications

  • Multiple years of experience with grassroots operations and management required, particularly with Hispanic audience.
  • Outstanding communication skills, both written and oral
  • Spanish language skills are preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent problem solving skills
  • Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively with state and national staff, in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, environment
  • Willingness to perform all duties as listed and any other duties assigned
  • Proven ability to work remotely and in an office environment
  • Competency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Must have valid driver’s license
  • Proven ability to form partnerships and create strategies to advance goals
  • Willingness to travel for day and overnight trips in and out of state
